Coaching & Mentoring

Refuge Foundation Coaches are skilled and experienced leaders who have a heart to see others thrive in their leadership roles.

A coach is the type of person who will personally approach a leader with challenges, questions and guidance. Each coach makes a commitment to set aside time each year to talk with other leaders through the ups and downs of life. They have life experience, personal health and depth of spirit that each participating leader can draw from.

What they do

Coaches aren’t focused on helping you grow your organization…they are focused on helping you become a healthier, more balanced leader. They don’t just give advice, they ask the right questions to help leaders think differently and reevaluate priorities. A good coach has the ability to ask the types of questions that help leaders find solutions for personal and professional issues unique to leaders of not-for-profit organizations.

We use Refuge Retreats to get leaders out of their day-to-day routines so they are more receptive to learning new skills. Our retreats focus on overall, holistic health of the leader. Coaches may challenge the way you’ve tackled problems in the past, cause you to rethink your daily schedule or help you navigate difficult relationships within your organization. Simply put, they are committed to helping you lead in a healthier fashion.

How they do it

Coaches connect with leaders in a relational manner. Being in the beauty of nature helps leaders unwind and unplug from the frenetic pace of nonprofit leadership. ”Divine conversations” on the river lead to trust and discovery. Coaches offer ten follow-up coaching sessions over the course of the year.
